There has been much debate as to who is the best Wide Receiver currently playing in the National Football League. I am here to end the speculation. Larry Fitzgerald is the answer most people would give you if you asked them right now. However, I have to disagree and therefore, based on my disagreement, Mr. Fitzgerald has been demoted from his pedestal of hype. All jokes aside, I have to say that it is impossible to answer such a subjective question because it is completely based upon favoritism and opinion. However, I will try to offer my take on the situation without bias. As a Wide Receiver myself, I can safely say that the major criteria for judging a Wide Receiver should be caliber of quarterback, speed & agility, catching ability, route running, and willingness to block. Larry Fitzgerald is a solid reciver because of his physical style of play and solid hands. It is true that his jumping ability combined with his size make him an impressive specimen, indeed.
If you truly are able to assess the receivers of the league without tainting your assessment with your opinion, you will agree with me when I say that Terrell Owens is the best wide receiver in the National Football League. No homo, but Terrell Owens is truly physically gifted with the body to be the best receiver in the league. He gets extra points for having an inconsistent quarterback in Tony Romo, plus his speed and quickness are for the most part, unmatched among humans. With his incredible size and strength, T.O. has the ability and willingness to throw blocks, showing that he can be an integral part of any offense. The main thing Terrell Owens is known for is his work ethic in the weightroom and on the field. Terrell Owens has worked long and hard and the result is the ability to make acrobatic catches and the thorough knowledge of pass routes that allows him to separate from defensive backs.
Please offer your opinion on the subject if you agree. If you don't agree, please do not bother to respond. Simply degrade yourself for the duration of the day on the grounds that you have no sports knowledge whatsoever. Thank you kindly.

PS-NFL 2008 Statistics
Terrell Owens-69 receptions, 1052 yards, 15.2 avg yards per game, 10 touchdowns, 38 first downs
Larry Fitzgerald-96 receptions, 1431, 14.9 avg yards per game, 12 touchdowns, 66 first downs
The key statistics here are average yards per game, and touchdowns. With only around 2/3 the receptions that Larry Fitzgerald got, T.O. had just about the same amount of scores and he gained more yards per catch than the Cardinals Receiver. Just because Larry Fitzgerald is a bigger part of his team's offense does not mean he is a better receiver. It just means he does not have the supporting cast to back him up.
I love this! Your voice shines through your writing and you back up your argument with facts. I would have liked to see some statistics to make your argument even stronger...
ReplyDeletecollin. You cannot say thta T.o is a better receiver than Larry fitzgerald. For one reason T.o leads the league in dropped passes, every year. Larry Fitzgerald has more offensive production, with a running game that does not match up to that of the cowboys. With all the double coverages and extra attention larry fitgerald receives, he still dominates every corner back and safety that other teams put in front of him. Any body who has seen larry fitgerald play over this season, especially the last few weeks can see thats it's obvious that he has taken the thrown from any receiver that has held it before him. Let's see what larry Fitzgerald does this weekend, in the biggest game of his career. collin come with a better argument next time.
ReplyDeleteI feel that many football wide receivers have been over rated such as T.O, In my own opinion I believe that their cant be a definite best wide reciever because everyone has a skill that others dont.
ReplyDeletebeing a great receiver is not all about putting up the great stats. I look at a great receiver as someone who not only put big numbers, but as someone who has a positively contageous attitude. Personally I look at Hines Ward as teh best receiver. No he does not put up the best stats, but he makes everyone else better and brings a winning attitude to teh locker room. Plus he always has a smile on his face and is always ready to lay someone out
ReplyDeleteBrah I love this article you wrote. But I do have disagree with you here. I believe Randy Moss is the best receiver in the NFL. Reason being cause Moss to me is faster and the 'hands' this man posses are as if he has glue on them! I am quoting Madden here "Even if you lose some of your speed from getting old and still be considered one of the fastest receivers in the league..."I don't know the correct words he used but it went something like that. But I’m not taking anything away from T.O. but his mouth gets him in too much trouble and that will hurt him along the lines of his career, he should take a lesson from Moss and STOP TAKING in all. LOL. But other than disagreeing with you brah I enjoyed reading this article keep 'em coming.
